Very fine Ames Manufacturing Company Militia Officer's sword. This sword boasts a gilt Knight's Helmet pommel with double chain guard attached along with flat slab mother of pearl grips. The cruciform guard is again gilt with a deep stipple effect. The oval cross-section blade is double edged with a small center fuller running 11.5 inches. The etched blade on the frost background is acorns & oak leaves a stand of American flags with a Liberty cap and the reverse has similar foliate with a stand of arms, an American eagle with E. P. U. and sun rays. The throat less gilt brass scabbard double top rings and a single middle ring. The slide in drag is a stylized acorn.is engraved with stylistic designs and stamped on the reverse Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass.
