This early scabbard is seldom encountered. There are but a handful of these B&G cavalry leather scabbards with very light weight brass mounts and rings that survived the war. They are hardly ever offered for sale, especially in this condition. There are initials carved on the top mount. Leather is very solid with one bend just above the brass drag. The sword is also just as found with deep mellow brass, original washer, oil cloth grips that come very close to looking like leather. The flat blade is very good and sound: On one side being bright some original polish showing through some pitted areas and the other dark with mostly a brown rust patina and patches of moderate pitting. Grip wrap is original and excellent with the exception of two pea size flakes near the guard. The single strand wire is original. One of the best early Confederate swords to hit the market and totally in it's original condition and never played with. A super addition to any Confederate or cavalry sword collection.
