A Portrait of General Thomas L. Crittenden

General Thomas L. Crittenden was born in Russellville, Kentucky, May 15, 1819. He was the son of United States Senator John J. Crittenden and the brother of Major General George B. Crittenden C.S.A.

He was the first cousin of General Thomas T. Crittenden. During the Mexican War, Crittenden served as aide to Zachary Taylor and as Col. Of the 3rd Kentucky Infantry. When Civil War broke out Tom like his father remained loyal to the union. He was commissioned Brigadier General of Volunteers in September of 1861 and then Major General July of 1862.

He retired in 1881 and died in 1893.
