US  Artillary Swords I

Model 1840 Ames artillery officers sword. It has a decorated guard and pommel with leather covered grip with a wire wrap. The blade is engraved N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield and dated 1848. It is decorated with a large stand of arms, US. Eagle, owner’s initials J.G.W. The center of the blade has a large NY and a large Tecumseh. The scabbard is silvered plated.

Middle

Early US Artillery officer c1812. The sword has a brass guard and back strap. The grip is of leather with double wire wrap. The beautiful blade is in brilliant blue and gold. It is decorated with an eagle and seventeen stars and has the motto "Honor and my Country". The maker is C. V. Keller Solingen. The scabbard is of solid brass.

Bottom

1862 Ames enlisted man’s artillery saber. The guard is stamped "Bugler J.B. Wallace Co. D." The sword is interesting because it seems to show that not all musicians carried the standard musicians sword.
