Top

High grade 1850 Staff & Field Officer sword. The ornate pommel is intricately cast with detailed high relief scrollwork and engraving. The half basket guard contains a large US surrounded by floral designs. The gold washed blade has a motto, which reads "for the union" along with beautifully detailed stand of arms and an American eagle with E pluribus unum. The blade is marked W. Clauberg Solingen. The scabbard is leather with richly engraved brass mounts.

Middle

A massive presentation Staff & Field Officer sword with a cast silver grip containing a Mexican style eagle with snake centered within a wreath of laurel and oak leaves. The huge guard is cast in the form of the state seal of New York. The obverse of the blade contains the American eagle with E pluribus unum. The reverse has a panel containing the large letters B.K. (standing for Battery K). The scabbard is solid brass with very heavy cast brass mounts, all of which contain a Greek key design. The top mount has a God of War, cannon and cannon balls. The middle mount contains a Chapeau, bugle, sword, gauntlet and sash. The drag has a belt, sword and ax along with oak leaves and acorns. The presentation is engraved on the scabbard and reads "Presented to/Capt. Augustus Hoelzle/by the members and ex-members/of Battery K., Artillery/1st Div. N.G.S.N.Y"(National Guard state of New York). This sword is complete with its original saber knot embroidered with a "K".

Bottom

A superb presentation 1850 Staff & Field Officer sword with a silver grip. The pommel contains the God of War. The guard has a US entwined in oak leaves and an eagle quillon. The gold washed Clauberg blade contains the American eagle E pluribus unum and a US panel. The scabbard is iron with brass mounts and applied castings. The throat is that of a drum, bugle, sword and flag. The top mount has an eagle encircled in a wreath. The middle mount is an eagle holding a book, sword, bugle and cannon. The drag is that of a full standing armed infantryman in front of a stand of flags. The presentation is on the reverse of the top mounts and reads "Presented to/Capt. H.R. Millet/Co. E 29th Maine Regt. Vols. /by his company".
