M 1840 Cavalry Officer Saber by Ames. Early saber often referred to as the "old wrist breaker".
This specimen is in excellent condition. Leather grip and double twisted wire are in fine shape.
Original washer is still present. The blade is excellent with full frost on the etch and original
polish. Obverse blade side has N.P. Ames Cutler Springfield/ stand of arms / foliate /
US Eagle / Foliate. Reverse side a US flag on a pole / foliate / large US / foliate / mounted officer / foliate / Tecumseh. The flat o the blade is decorated with leaves. Steel scabbard.
