Top State of LA. extra -Large guard cast in very high relief, featuring a Pelican flanked by the letters C S along with floral and leaf designs.Pommel is cast fron 2 pieces with 11 stars. Leather grip has twisted wire. Hand engraved blade with design going all but the last 6". Leather top stitched scabbard with brass mounts. Believed made by Pradel. Middle LA. sword similar to that of Dufilho But probably Pradel. Large guard with extra branch displaying C. S. seperated by the pelican ( LA state seal). Grip covered with oil cloth and wraped with fine twisted brass wire. Blade is of an early wide style with an iron scabbard also from the earlier period. Bottom "Dufilho N. Orleans" marked on the blade of this ultra fine short sword. Fancy high relief cast brass back strap & guard featuring an "angry" eagle. Leather grip with twisted brass wire. Back seamed leather scabbard with brass mounts much like those on the B&G muscian and N.C.O. swords. No doubt a custom order for Navy or Artillery officer. |
