Model 1842 Navy Cutlass. The blade is marked N.P. Ames / Springfield, Mass. The reverse is U.S.N. / 1843 /NWP The obverse quillon is stamped wat and the reverse is stamped JCB. The solid cast grip is a fish scale pattern with 3 steel rivets. The pommel has the eagle on both sides. The leather scabbard is back seamed with sheet brass mounts held by small brass pins. The frog stud is of the button type.
